>> live, and in h.d., this is abc7 breaking news. >> our breaking news is from montgomery county as a water main break leaves nearly a dozen homes without water tonight. this situation his caused a major mess in the cengs kensington neighborhood. the water main broke loose in the 4400 block of glen ridge street. >> several home are without power and many more here in this kensington neighborhood have water soaked basements because of this. check out this huge hole that crews are trying to fix. there's a six-inch water main down, a pipe that erupted leaving quite a mess for

residents and this crew. >> unfortunately we have a mess now. we have a hole in the street and homes that are flooded. >> a destructive water main break has soiled carpets destroyed belongings and spoiled moods in this kensington, maryland, neighborhood. >> it started as a babbling brook and ended up the size of a v.w. beatle. >> residents say early tuesday evening, the pipe ruptured, sending water down the street and into dozens of homes. >> there was water gushing out of the street coming out of the manhole. >> the power was shut off to at least nine homes as a safety precaution. >> we are in my basement where the water main break outside resulted in six inches of very dirty water down here. >> the cause is undetermined but the six-inch pipe that burst was old. >> this is a classic example of aging infrastructure. >> about a quarter of wssc's

detectives say was at the center of a frightening police chase that lasted on two interstates from maryland into virginia and tonight we are hearing from those who knew the woman who was behind the wheel and is now under arrest. newschopper 7 was there after the suspect struggled with officers. what family and neighbors are saying tonight. >> police say they clocked this woman on 66 going 93 miles an hour but she wouldn't pull over but she got on the beltway led them on a chase to the north kept going north to the state line and at that point police from virginia gave up their chase but shortly after that, authorities in maryland would have a heck of a time taking her into custody. tonight, in the winchester neighborhood of manassas. >> we have no comment. >> do you know what happened? >> no. >> a woman neighbors say is

suspect angela cobbold's sister said little about today's wild police chase spanning two states. before cobbold was finally pulled from her car at this construction site at white flint mall she was chased by virginia, quality reed and montgomery county police, struck a police vehicle and was shot at by an officer. >> officers reported to us that she appeared to be eating soap. >> it was two days ago. >> the last time next door neighbor jose velasquez saw cobbold, she sat in the black mitsubishi for two hours. >> she was sitting in the car reading the bible. >> neighbors were stunned that the woman they saw on the news lived here. >> i had no idea she lived a couple of houses down. >> rarely we see here and i just say hello and that's about it. >> police say cobbold was taken to a hospital to be evaluated. her injuries were not serious. tonight, it's a mystery why she

>> we are following breaking news surrounding the attacks on the united states embassy in libya. routers is reporting that the white house knew within two hours of the attack on ben benghazi that an islamist military group claimed responsibility. emails follow questions of how much was known about these attacks as they were happening. there's no response from the white house about this report but we will keep you posted as soon as we learn more. new tonight at 11:00, a man is dead after an apparent shark attack in california. the surfer was bitten this morning near vandenberg air force base and died on the scene. law enforcement officials say he was not affiliated with the base but was on a stretch of beach that was open to the public there. this was the same place where a 19-year-old was killed two years ago by awmakers have moved a step closer to revoke the license of the pharmacy at the center of

the meningitis outbreak. massachusetts governor patrick moved to revoke the license of the new england compounding center and the licenses of three pharmacists. state health officials in massachusetts say they found fungus in steroids and a leaky boiler in a room supposed to be sanitized within that facility. the meningitis outbreak is blamed for 300 illnesses and 23 deaths. tonight, the hero responsible for one of baseball's greatest moments strikes out with police. the hall of fame legend placed in handcuffs and the discovery made by police that led to the arrest. >> plus, a sexual assault in falls park. who police are looking for and why it's a face you've seen before. >> i'm bob ryan in the weather center. what month is this? it's october? is that coming back? i'll tell you the details and the latest on sandy.

spots, 80 degrees. it will be another outdoor recess kind of day tomorrow at bethesda country club and simpson middle school in leesburg. near 80 degrees, a lot of schools, this is the time of year you say, is it going to rain or can you get outside? tomorrow, the outside, look at these temperatures around the east. jackson, mississippi, 81 degrees. omaha near 80 degrees all over the east, temperatures were 10 to 15, 20 degrees above average almost the entire country with a pattern that we have. that's sandy down there. this is the one thing that we are all watching is this -- see that wave out there. if that moves towards the east and picks up sandy it could be a threat towards the northeast or especially new england late in the weekend or early next week. right now there is sandy and it's quite a circulation and it's unusual to, again see a

storm this strong in the tropics. from all indications and this is the official track from the folks at the tropical prescription -- prediction center, it will be a hurricane before it moves across cuba. by next week, that's the 70% probability it will be heading out to sea but there is some risk that it would be perhaps by early next week impacting the northeast coast. that is well to our north not any significant threat to us. that's a long way away. in the meantime, when you get up and head out tomorrow morning look at these temperatures all around our region. even up at hagerstown, only in the mid 50's, some high clouds around. during tomorrow afternoon again, temperatures will be into the high 70's to near 80 degrees. you folks around winchester, 75 degrees. then we'll get into a bit cooler weather as we head into the weekend. when you head out tomorrow, a mild morning temperatures near 60 degrees.
